Not only is yoga a great way to relax and get rid of the tensions of the day, believe it or not, it can also be a wonderful way to shed those extra pounds. A typical yoga workout will burn just as many calories as an aerobic workout, but is a lot easier on the body, because there is no running or jumping, which causes impact that can lead to foot, knee, hip and back injuries.
When you get involved in yoga, you will be doing a form or exercise that is relaxing, but still burns plenty of calories. There are a lot of exercise fanatics who do not believe that a yoga workout can be nearly as tough and rigorous as a traditional workout. In fact, you can work up just as much of a sweat doing yoga as you can doing aerobics, jogging or other forms of exercise, and anyone who says that the moves look simple should give it a try. They might just find that they have been missing out on something great.
Get a Great Workout with Power Yoga
There are all kinds of yoga positions that can be put together to form a great workout routine. Many practitioners choose to perform these positions in a slow manner, getting all they can out of the stretches. But, for a really intense workout, you can take those positions and do them in a fairly quick, non-stop sequence, which will provide you with a wonderful workout for your entire body. There isn’t a muscle that doesn’t get exercised with a power yoga workout, and you will still feel really relaxed afterwards.
Feel Invigorated, Not Wasted After Workouts
For many of us, especially in the beginning, doing traditional workouts leaves us feeling tired and worn out. But, because yoga is well-known for being a form of exercising that is extremely relaxing, you will leave your workouts feeling refreshed and invigorated, and ready to face the rest of your day with loads of energy. And you will also get a great night’s sleep, which is essential for good health.
Yoga is an excellent way to lose weight, but remember, just like with any other type of exercise program, you should consult with your physician before starting, especially if you have any sort of physical limitations. Yoga is a great form of exercise and can actually help many physical problems; your physician will be able to tell you if it is right for you.
