5 Common Weight Loss Mistakes


Being involved in the weight loss industry for many years, I have seen a few common things that stop people from losing weight. These common, and often not thought of, things can frustrate and thwart your weight loss goals.

Below is a list of mistakes that are made that can stop you from losing weight:

Not Eating During The Day But Eating A Lot In The Evening
This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make. Our metabolism is in-action during the day, helping with energy needs. The body needs to transport more energy to muscles and organs during the day when they are needed more, however at night the metabolism lowers and this energy is diverted to fat storage. To lose weight, it is best to eat during the day and restrict eating before you go to bed.

Hidden Sugar Consumption
Usually when someone thinks of consuming sugar, they think of adding sugar to coffee, drinking soda, or eating candy. However, avoidable sugar is in a lot of other common items, such as mouth fresheners, gum, ketchup, fruit juices, and much much more.

Over-Doing Diet Product Consumption
Just because a product is meant for dieting or has the word “diet” on the label, doesn’t mean you can over-consume it. If you like Slimfast, great, drink it in moderation. Don’t  sabotage your diet plan by consuming too much of a good thing.

Consuming Too Much Artificial Sweetener
Artificial sweeteners are supposed to be used in small amounts, however many dieters can end up using them too much. One diet drink can give you your entire day’s allowance for sweetener. If you consume more, you can interfere with you metabolism.

Not Keeping Track Of How Much You Eat
Most of us don’t realize how much all the little snacking we do affects our calorie intake. We might steal a snack before, eat a treat when we get back home, or just a little something here and there. These little bites don’t mean much individually, but they add up quick. A diet journal is one of the best ways to not only keep track of meals and snacking, but to also learn about your eating habits.  You’ll most likely be surprised. Of course there are many more mistakes, but those are the five common mistakes that I see all the time. Get these mistakes under control and your life while dieting will be much more easier.

    I believe you are right with all the information you’ve reported, especially hitting the nail on the head with getting exactly what you need by being as dedicated as possible. One thing I know a lot of people have trouble with is patience (including myself lol) but it does pay off. I’ve seen a lot of great results on people who’ve committed. Thanks for the information!

    Another common weight loss mistake people do is that they seem to focus on a short term result. For e.g. a girl says, i’m getting married, and i want to look good and loose some weight. Thou, these motivational triggers are good for a go; But they shouldn’t be the finish line. Incorporating exercise and healthy meals into your lifestyle will bring you long term and better results.

    I guess a bag of M&Ms and a peanut butter bar just now (around midnight) was not a good thing. For some reason, I can’t stop my late night eating. I better do so soon.

    I agree so much that there are a lot of hidden sugars in a lot of food and most are very bad for you like high fructose corn syrup. Since i have been trying to eat healthy i have became a very strict buyer when i go to the grocery store. I find myself checking all labels of the products before i buy.

    I like that you have shared here some common weight loss mistakes. Some people eat less and don’t exercise for weight loss which is truly not good for their health.In this way they can become ill only.I think that this post is an eye opening for those who are doing these mistakes.

    Carbonated drinks will make you look bloated. It´s also a mistake to rely on a fatburner for a short term weight loss. Long term weight loss can include a good fatburner, but it should be cycled on and off to avoid serious side effects.

    Non-fat foods are a killer for hidden sugar consumption. Many people buy non-fat desserts thinking that they are safe to eat since they don’t have any fat. The trouble is when the fat is taken out, sugar is put in to replace it. This adds a ton of calories, and will severely hamper weight loss.

    I think the “hidden sugar consumption” point is very important. I’ve found that the main contributor to obesity is high sugar intake. Seriously, if you watch statistics you’ll see today we consume A LOT more sugar than 30 years before. It’s important to find products that do not contain as much sugar.
