A new study shows further information as to how genetics plays a role in weight loss.

A research study by a School of Pharmacy scientist at the University of healthcare 300x199 Genetics and Weight LossNavarra, Estíbaliz Goyenechea Soto, has showed that the presence of higher body fat, reduces the ability of of the body to lose and maintain weight.

Genetics in Weight Loss

This research, studied how the individual genetics of obese subjects can help or hurt weight loss while dieting, and also influence the resulting long-term maintenance of the weight loss.

Some people who are overweight or obese have genes that are mutated or altered which can, at first, make it more difficult to lose weight. In addition, these genes also make it easier to regain the lost weight within six to twelve months.

Because of this genetic issue, plus other factors like bad dietary habits or lack of physical activity, can increase the likelihood that these people will become obese and have complications from related problems, like diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and high blood pressure.
