Quick Weight Loss

If you are among the ones who have decided to lose weight, then it is clear that you are looking for some effective diet tips to get you there. Only exercising will not help you lose weight effectively. What if you exercise daily but keep on consuming trans-fats and high caloric foods without any limits?

Obviously, this is not going to give you any positive results. In fact, such a diet tends to negate the efforts you make towards weight loss. So, it is necessary to complement exercising with a good diet plan for effective weight loss.

There are many weight loss diet plans available. However, what is essential is to know the vital components that should be included in a diet and the ones that should be avoided.

It is also equally important to know how to follow the diet plan in the most effective manner for obtaining the desirable results. To give you true knowledge about these things, here are some highly recommended healthy diet tips for weight loss.

Slowly reduce the intake of junk food

Irrespective of the diet plan you choose for losing weight, you will not succeed unless you are willing to leave those fast or junk foods such as pizza, fries, potato chips, doughnuts, hot dogs, and burgers behind. These foods are of no use for the body, as they lack adequate nutrients, even though they offer a more tempting taste than healthy items.

Further, they only increase the intake of calories, which is one of sthe key reason for weight gain. Therefore, start replacing these foods with nutritious items made up of meats, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Begin this replacement slowly, if you cannot quit all at once.

Decrease the portions

Most people eat 2-3 times a day. So, what is wrong with that? Well, the problem lies in eating too much at one time. For example, many people will skip their morning breakfast and then eat heavily at lunch. This is actually one of the secret culprits that leads to weight gain. Eating too much at one time makes for a sluggish metabolism, which consequently decelerates the natural fat burning process in the body.

Therefore, it is recommended to eat 5-6 times in a day in smaller portions than normal. Consider serving yourself less or taking a small plate, and eat at an interval of 3-4 hours, so that your appetite is regulated to increase the rate of metabolism. In this way, the body will burn more fat quickly without any extra effort.

Avoid mindless eating

From kids to adults, a majority of people in this world have a habit of watching TV while eating. But did you know that eating while watching TV can make you consume 40% more

calories? This is actually the finding of the latest study! If you must watch TV, try to keep your eating separate.  Maybe find something to do with your hands while watching so that you don’t turn to food. When you are eating, try eating with concentration and chewing each nibble almost 30 times in order to consume less.

Consume more fiber

It has been found that the inadequate consumption of fiber can be the hidden reason behind growing fatter, especially women. Therefore, fiber researchers recommend having at least 25g of fiber on a day to day basis, which certainly can make your body show off the tight and beautiful abs. Fiber, an indigestible constituent present in vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods boosts the weight loss process due to two reasons: ‘filling factor’ and ‘chew factor’.

Fiber-based items need more chewing and after consuming a few bites, you are sure to feel full as well as satisfied. This certainly curbs the tendency of having more. However, add fiber gradually and consistently to avoid gas. Also, higher-fiber foods such as oats and beans tend to be better.  Make sure you don’t consume all your fiber in one meal.

Make fresh fruits and vegetables your top priority

Sadly, not many people love to have fresh fruits and leafy greens. However, it is essential to get used to them by slowly changing a few aspects of daily meals. For example, you can easily get used to fruits if you substitute them for bacon and pancakes in the morning. Similarly, you can include a green vegetable soup (but a low sodium one) before having the main course. You will feel full by just having a bowl of fresh berries or soup without instilling unnecessary calories.

Avoid high-carb/empty-calorie items

This category includes foods such as cookies, snack cakes, and candy, which are high in sodium as well as simple carbs which trigger bloating.

Consider eating good nutrients

Ensure that you consume adequate calories (not more than required) from complex healthy carbs, healthy fats, and proteins. Do not reduce the calorie intake such that you do not even provide the body with the required amount of calories. In case you do so, you temporarily risk reducing metabolism, which may add to bloating. As a matter of fact, women need a minimum of 1,800 per day and 2,400 calories or more in case they are too active.

Choose the right drink

First, stop taking carbonated or fizzy drinks such as sodas and spritzers; which can lead to bloating through gas induced by the carbon dioxide present in the bubbles. This gas certainly slows down the process of emptying the stomach. Similarly, reduce the intake of caffeine and alcohol. Being natural diuretics, both lead to fluid loss, and consequently, dehydration, which can contribute to stomach fattening.

Well, it is highly recommended to drink at least 10-12 glasses of water everyday. Alternatively, drinks with few or no calories, sodium, and caffeine are ideal, such as herbal tea. Also, try eating lots of water-rich foods.

Avoid changing diets frequently

Have you gotten irritated after seeing hardly any results after following a diet plan for a considerable period of time? Well, this irritation can be the result of frequent diet plan changes! It is imprudent to do so too often because not all bodies adjust to diets in the same manner. It is vital to follow a diet program for at least two months to give it time to produce results before you go choosing another one.

These weight loss diet tips will surely create a drastic change in your lifestyle and will give your body a fair chance to lose weight.

Now before you start reading, I know you’re thinking “come on, I’ve heard the ‘one easy step’ trick before”.  Well, I cannot promise you that this will give you the body of your dreams.  Nor will it produce that magical six-pack you see on infomercials.  What it WILL do is help you consume less calories, which can lead to fat loss (especially when combined with a reasonable fitness program!).

Still interested?  Well, here goes, and it may be something you’ve heard before but dismissed.

The Big Tip

Don’t drink your calories.

What?  That’s it?!  Yup.  And as easy as it sounds, it’s one of the main things I see well-meaning, weight-loss-oriented people do all the time.  Too bad, since this one thing can make or break a slim and healthy lifestyle.

What do I mean when I say don’t drink your calories?  Well, unfortunately, most beverages (besides water, of course) carry a pretty heavy calorie count.  And not just that, the majority of those are in the form of sugar.  When your body consumes too much sugar (which is really any sugar past the very occasional indulgence), then it packs it on as fat.  The most affected area is those darned love handles that we’re all trying to get rid of!

But I Thought That Fruit Juice Was Healthy…

Sadly, many people think they’re being healthy and doing themselves a favor by drinking fruit juice instead of soda.  I hate to break it to you, but fruit juice, sweet tea, and the like are all just as bad for you as a regular old Coca-Cola.  They’re loaded with sugar and have had their nutrients stripped during all that processing.  In fact, the bottles in the juice aisle of your grocery store often have mold and fungi in them as well, which can contribute to the already-too-plentiful yeast population in many people’s bodies.

squeezing orange One Easy Step to Lose WeightNow, if you really love juice and you just can’t live without it, take my advice and get a juicer.  Fresh squeezed juice is wonderful for your body and carries all the fiber and nutrients that real juice is meant to have.  And, of course, it tastes 100% better than that processed junk in the juice aisle.

Aside from the real juice, however, the best thing to drink is (I know, I know)…  Water.  Don’t love it?  Learn to.  That’s my tough love advice.  If you commit to drinking a little bit of water every day, starting with just 3 glasses (one for each meal), and gradually increasing as you’re ready, I promise you in six months you will be a water fanatic.  I probably won’t be able to find you without a water bottle in your hand.

One thing that people who are not water drinkers notice when they start purposefully consuming water is that they feel so much better.  Just this one lifestyle change can help you feel clearer-headed, rested, and help you become more regular (that means it helps you poop easier, in plain English).

Of course, the other added benefit is that it helps you lose weight because you’re not taking in a mega-load of calories just by drinking them.

Aren’t There Any Healthy Beverages Besides Water?

Yes!  I’m so glad you asked.  First and foremost, there is herbal tea.  Now before you start rolling your eyes and walk away, give me just a second.  Herbal tea makes most people conjure up images of peasant-skirted hippies and incense or it just says one thing – BORING.  But it doesn’t have to be!

Learn how to make tea time fun for you.  One of the first things I did upon learning that herbal tea was good for me and probably something I was going to have to learn to like was that I got a beautiful teapot that I knew I would love using.  One of my favorite things is to grate my own ginger or use my own real, fresh, mint leaves to make a delicious pot of tea.  Way better than a box.  To me, sitting down with a cup of tea is a treat and a time to let everyone else know I’m not available (and with four kids, I need it!).

Another beverage that is so beneficial for you I could spend a year yacking your ear off about, is kefir.  Ke-what?  Kefir (pronounced keh-FEER).  Kefir is a probiotic drink, like a drinkable yogurt, that is absolutely loaded with good bacteria for your gut.  You can put it in smoothies, drink it straight, or flavor it.  You can usually find it in the refrigerated organic section in your grocery store, although for the very adventurous I suggest making your own.  You’ll need to order some kefir grains to do this (google it – there’s many places to order from).  I highly recommend the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon for a good kefir recipe, as well as other healthy fermented beverages.  Or you can look around online for different recipes.

How About Milk?  It Does a Body Good, Right?

Well, Yes and No.  Yes, milk straight from the cow, teaming with all the enzymes and bacteria you need, does do a body good.  But milk found in the grocery store, even in the organic aisle, that has been heated to kill off all the germs (which, of course, also kills off all the good stuff)?  Nope, not so much.  Sorry to burst your bubble.

My recommendation is either a) look around for a good organic farmer nearby who offers “cow shares”, i.e. a partial ownership in his herd, so you can get good milk, or b) stick to alternate sources of milk such as almond milk, coconut milk, etc.  I know this sounds harsh (I used to be skeptical myself), but milk that’s been pasteurized and homogenized is just plain not good for you.  Your body can’t digest it, and it’s missing the enzymes which would help you digest it, so you end up with flatulence, stomach upset, and a host of other digestive problems in the long run.  Not to mention the homogenization changes the molecular structure, which causes you to hang on to the fat instead of its running its course through your system and taking out bad bacteria with it.

To Summarize

That’s easy!  Learn to love water.   In fact, don’t even start eliminating other beverages from your diet if you’re uncomfortable with water.  Just start consuming a few glasses a day, then slowly increase and start replacing other drinks.  As you cut out those calories and added sugar, you’ll be amazed at the differences, both in the way you feel and in the way you look.  Then, start adding in healthy beverages like herbal tea, probiotic drinks, and even raw milk or alternate milks.  Try this one step alone and you’ll thank me, I promise!

woman jogging blur Intervals for Weight LossHave you ever spent an hour or more on a cardio session and felt that you’ve done something good for yourself?  I hate to break the unfortunate news to you, but extended cardio is not only less than helpful, it can be downright detrimental to your weight loss efforts.

I know, I know.  How can this be?  Don’t all the gurus put out workout videos with 60 minute cardio sessions, promising sculpted abs, tighter glutes, and toned arms?  The truth is that these long periods of cardio are not only ineffective, they’re actually training your body to hold on to those excess pounds.

When you perform aerobic exercise for a long duration several times a week, your body is signaled to hold onto fat because it thinks it will need it to keep up with the time you spend exercising.  Shocking, isn’t it?

This is where intervals come in.  Intervals are short periods (like 30 to 60 seconds) of high intensity exercise, the kind in which you can’t talk easily while doing.  You just alternate it with periods of low intensity movement, like marching in place or light jogging.

So, for instance, if you were to do jumping jacks, you would perform them with as much energy as you could for 30 seconds, then take another 30 to march in place.  Repeat 10 times and you have a cardio interval workout.

The great thing about this is that any exercise can be used, even strength training exercises like squats or lunges.  You could also do this on a treadmill by alternating your speeds or while outside running by alternating your intensity.

However, that’s not the best part.  The BEST part is that you only need about 15 minutes of this a day.  That’s right!  No lengthy cardio marathons that leave you exhausted and take up a huge chunk of your time.

How does this work?  Well, the short bursts of high-energy exercise encourage your body to burn the maximum amount of calories without storing fat to be used during long workouts.  It also stimulates the growth hormone that tells your muscles to put on lean muscle mass.

Another secret of the interval workout is called EPOC, or excess post-exercise oxygen consumption.  When your body does interval-style exercise, it creates a need to burn oxygen for the next 24 to 48 hours, meaning you burn more calories over the next day than you would if you had devoted an hour of your life to meaningless cardio.

Think it sounds too good to be true?  Well, it’s too good because it is true!  If you’re skeptical, just try it for a month and see what you think.  If you don’t feel that it’s helped you, then by all means, return to the long, boring aerobic workouts you think you’ll miss.

Be warned, however:  Returning to never-ending workout sessions is hard to do once you’ve tasted the benefits of short, effective interval-style training.  Prepare for quicker weight loss, more energy, and more compliments!

Need a plan to help you get started? Our favorite interval based weight loss program is Fit Yummy Mummy. Whether you are a man or woman this program only takes 15min a day and WILL work.

Have you ever seen a skinny woman in shorts walk by and then notice the cellulite covering the back of her legs?  “How is that possible?” you think.  Well, losing fat does not mean becoming toned.  In fact, losing fat and looking lean are two entirely different things.femail weight lifter The Importance of Strength Training

Many women are obsessed with burning calories and losing weight.  While this is a good thing, it is nothing compared to gaining muscle.  Why?  Muscle burns calories twenty-four hours a day, not just while you’re working out.

The more muscle you put on, the more calories you burn, the more weight you lose, the more toned you look.  I’d say that’s a pretty good cycle to find yourself in, wouldn’t you?  So how can you put yourself into this cycle?

The best way to gain lean muscle mass is by strength training.  Now, the first thing that comes to many people’s minds when they hear those words is a gym full of sweaty, oversized men pumping iron and breathing out their mouths in an obnoxious manner.  Take heart!  Strength training does not have to look like that!

Strength training can be done at home, with minimal equipment, for only fifteen minutes a day, three days a week.  “Wait a minute!” you say, “That’s not enough time to lose weight and put on muscle!”  In fact, it really is.

Still intimidated?  Many strength training exercises don’t even require weights or equipment!  There are a myriad of body weight only exercises out there for you to choose from.  That means no weights, no equipment, no special room required, no hassle!  You can even get your kids to do these with you, they’re so simple!

The difference between strength training and cardio is that strength training is working a specific group or groups of muscles for a set period of repetitions.  Cardio is aerobic exercise that causes you to reach your maximum heart rate, improving your circulation and stamina.  Cardio may or may not target a specific muscle group.

The ideal workout regimen is one that alternates strength training and cardio.  As you continually push your body to perform short bursts of aerobic exercise, the pounds will begin to melt away.  As you target specific muscle groups with exercises designed to strengthen those areas, muscle will be forming under the surface.  By the time you lose the weight, there will be muscle tone showing up!  And, of course, the muscle you’re adding will help the weight come off even faster.

One of the best ways for beginners to start this process is by focusing on body weight only exercises that don’t require equipment.  By the time you begin to need weights in order to make the exercises more intense, you’ll already be familiar with that kind of exercise and it won’t be as intimidating to add a little weight here and there.
